  - Zweck der Stiftung ist es, begabte **Studierende und Absolvent(*inn)en des Fachs Physik an der JKU zu fördern**. Dies wird durch **Vergabe von Stipendien und Preisen** verwirklicht. \\  \\ 
  - Im Wintersemester 2018 umfasste dies die Studien //„Technische Physik“// (Bachelor- & Master), //„Nanoscience and -Technology“// (Master), //„Biophysik“// (Master), //„Dr. der Technik“// und //„Dr. der Naturwissenschaften“// (jeweils wenn mit Schwerpunkt Physik), sowie das „Lehramt Sekundarstufe” (mit Schwerpunkt Physik, jeweils Bachelor und Master). \\  \\ 
  - Über die Förderung neuer Studienrichtungen entscheidet der Vorstand. Eine Förderung interdisziplinärer Arbeiten (od. Studien) mit Schwerpunkt Physik können ebenfalls genehmigt werden, allerdings nur in besonders begründeten Fällen. \\  \\

  - The purpose of the Wilhelm Macke Foundation is to support gifted **JKU-students and -graduates in Physics**. This aim is reached through granting **scholarships and awards**. \\  \\ 
  - Presently (academic year 2018/19) “Physics” at JKU covers the bachelor- and master programs //“Technical Physics”//, the master studies //“Nanoscience and Technology”// and //“Biophysics”//, as well as the PhD studies //“Dr. of Engineering Sciences”// and //“Dr. of the Natural Sciences”// if their emphasis is lying on physics; as well as the bachelor- and master studies //“Teaching Physics at Secondary Level”//. \\  \\

=== Wilhelm Macke Masterarbeitspreis ===

Der Preis wird für an der JKU approbierte Masterarbeiten[(Für Diplomarbeiten im Lehramtststudium Physik mit Beginn vor dem WS 2016/17 gelten alle Aussagen sinngemäß.)] in Physik[(in den oben genannten Studienrichtungen (hinsichtlich an anderen Institutionen / Universitäten angefertigter Arbeiten gilt [[purpose_of_foundation#stiftungszweckpurpose| Stiftungszweck]]/Punkt3 sinngemäß) / in the above named study programs; for work carried out elsewhere, cf. [[purpose_of_foundation#stiftungszweckpurpose| Stiftungszweck]]/Punkt3)] verliehen, die mit //“sehr gut”// beurteilt wurden. Das Preisgeld beträgt[(Wurde bereits ein Macke Anerkennungspreis zuerkannt, vermindert sich das Preisgeld entsprechend / If the applicant already got a Macke recognition award, the prize is reduced accordingly.)] dzt. Eur 1.600€. Pro Studienjahr werden maximal 3 solche Preise vergeben.

**Stichtag** für die Bewerbung ist jährlich der **28. Februar**, die Approbierung der Arbeit muss in den letzten 14 Monaten vor diesem Stichtag erfolgt sein[(Dies entspricht i.A. dem Zeitraum Approbation zwischen 01. Dezember des vergangenen und 31. Jänner des laufenden Studienjahres / Usually this means the thesis was approbated within the time range 1st of december of the previous until 31st of january of the current academic year.)].

Die Bewerbung impliziert die Verpflichtung[(wenn nicht außerordentliche Gründe dagegen sprechen / unless justified otherwise by extraordinary reasons)], im Fall der Zuerkennung eine allgemein verständliche öffentlich e Präsentation im Rahmen des //“Macke Award”s// abzuhalten, und die Vortragsunterlagen in einer für AHS/BHS-Lehrkräfte verwendbaren Form zur Verfügung zu stellen.

Die **Antragstellung** erfolgt durch email an <mackestiftung@jku.at>, durch die Kandidat(inn)en selbst, oder auf Vorschlag durch Universitätslehrer(innen) der Physik der JKU.

=== Wilhelm Macke Master Thesis Prize ===

The prize is given to honor an excellent master thesis carried out at the JKU in physics[(#2)], which must be graded with //"sehr gut"//. The prize currently amounts[(#3)] to Eur 1.600€ and can be given to at most 3 candidates / academic year.

Application **deadline is 28th of February** of each year; the approbation of the thesis must have been in the 14 months preceding this date[(#4)].

The application, if successful, implies the obligation[(#5)] to give a public, generally understandable presentation of the work at the //“Macke Award”//, and to make the presentation available for teachers.

Applications, directed to <mackestiftung@jku.at>, can be submitted both by the candidate and the faculty members of the JKU physics department. They must contain

=== Wilhelm Macke Anerkennungspreise === 

Diese werden im Bachelor-, sowie in den Master-Studien vergeben. Sie honorieren ein rasches Studium[(Auslandsaufenthalte, Zivildienst u.Ä. werden nicht eingerechnet; bei vom Vorstand anerkannten außergewöhnlichen Begründungen sind auch längere Studiendauern möglich / studying times abroad (eg erasmus), military service, etc are not counted.)] (Mindeststudiendauer + Toleranzsemester) mit Ausgezeichnung und sehr guten Bachelor/Master-Arbeiten. Auch für (max. 2/Jahr) hervorragende Master- (Diplom-) Arbeiten, die keinen Macke-Masterarbeitspreis erhielten, kann dieser Preis vergeben werden.[(Studierende, die einen Macke Masterarbeitspreis zugesprochen bekamen, erhalten nicht zusätzlich einen Anerkennungspreis / Students who were assigned a Macke Master thesis award are not granted an Anerkennungsprize in addition.)]

Er beträgt dzt. Eur 500,-.

Die Bewerbung impliziert die Verpflichtung[(wenn nich außerordentliche Gründe dagegen sprechen
 / unless justified otherwise by extraordinary reasons)], im Fall der Zuerkennung bei Bedarf des Fachbereichs Physik eine allgemein verständliche Präsentation der Arbeit (z.B. als Poster) zu gestalten und zu präsentieren.

=== Wilhelm Macke Recognition Prizes === 

They are granted for both, bachelor, as well as master students and reward studies of short duration[(#1)] ("Mindeststudiendauer" + 1 semester) with excellent grades, plus a very good bachelor- or master thesis. They can also be awarded (at most 2/year) for an outstanding master thesis, if no Macke Master Thesis Prize has been granted [(#2)].

The prize currently amounts to Eur 500,-.

The application, if successful and if needed, implies[(#3)] to present the work in a generally understandable manner (e.g. as a poster) at one of the introductory activites of the physics department.

Applications are to be submitted to mackestiftung/\jku.at by the candidates themselves, including

=== Wilhelm Macke Mobilitäts-Stipendium (momentan ausgesetzt!) === 

  - Dieses wird an begabte Studierende / Absolvent(inn)en für Forschungsaufenthalte im Ausland im Rahmen der Ausbildung zum Bachelor, Master, oder Dr. (techn. bzw. rer.nat.) vergeben. Es kann weiters innerhalb von 3 Jahren nach Studienabschluss zu Forschungszwecken oder zur physikalischen Weiterbildung vergeben werden.\\  \\ 
  - Die Dauer des Aufenthalts soll **mind. 1 Monat und max. 1 Jahr** betragen. Für Tagungsteilnahmen, Sommer-/Winterschulen u.Ä. ist auch eine kürzere Frist möglich, sofern nachgewiesenermaßen keine anderen Finanzierungsmöglichkeiten (FWF, JKU, Land OÖ, ...) gegeben sind. \\  \\ 
  - Der Stiftung ist über das Forschungsergebnis in einer zur Veröffentlichung auf der Homepage der Stiftung geeigneten Form zu berichten. (Die Auszahlung der letzten Rate erfolgt nach Erhalt dieses Berichts.) \\  \\ 

Die Höhe der Wilhelm Macke Mobilitätsstipendien richtet sich nach dem begründeten Bedarf (Orientierungshilfe: zB Schrödingerstipendium, Erasmusstipendium, ...). \\  \\ 

**Antragstellung**: durch die Kandidat(*inn)en selbst. Bei Aufenthalten mit einer Dauer von mehr als 1 Monat sind eine Einladung der Gastinstitution und ein Forschungsplan beizubringen, ggfs. auch eine Befüwortung durch den(die) Betreuer(*in) der Bac-/Master-/Doktor-Arbeit. Die Wilhelm-Mackestiftung fördert prinzipiell subsidiär, d.h. Mittel aus anderen Förderungsquellen sowie Forschungsprojekten sind vorrangig auszuschöpfen.

=== Wilhelm Macke Mobility Scholarship (presently suspended!) ===

  - The Macke Mobility Scholarship is granted to gifted JKU physics students and to facilitate research stays abroad in the bachelor-, master- and PhD programs. After graduation this Scholarship can be given for research activities or post graduate training in physics. The stay abroad must begin within 3 years after accomplishment of the degree. \\  \\ 
  - The period of the stay must last **at least 1 month and at most 1 year**. In connection with conference participations, summer-/winter schools and similar scientific activities a shorter period is also possible, provided that no other funding (e.g. research projects, JKU, ...) is possible. \\  \\ 
  - The foundation must be informed about the research outcome in a way suitable for publication its website. (The last rate of the scholarship is paid after receiving the final report.)  \\  \\ 

The amount of the Wilhelm Macke Mobility Scholarship depends on the requirements as argued in the incoming applications. (Conventional current funding conditions, e.g. Schrödingerstipendium, Erasmus, ..., act as guidance).  \\  \\ 

**Applications** are to be submitted by the candidates themselves; for stays exceeding 1 months, an invitation by the guest institution, a research plan and the reccommendation of your local advisor are required. On principle, the Wilhelm Macke foundation supports subsidiarily, i.e. other funds and means from research projects must be exploited preferentially.
